Fort Kochi and Mattancherry by Rickshaw

Introduction: This tour is a walking exploration of two neighbourhoods; Fort Kochi and Mattancherry. We will use a local rickshaw to travel between these two areas. Fort Kochi is made up of quaint streets, vibrant markets, beaches and old stately houses. Mattancherry, once a major trading centre, is home to wide range of communities who have settled here over the years. At the heart of Mattanchery is 'Jew Town', where ancient Jewish traders first settled in.

Coverage:
The tour includes the following:

  • A walk through the old quarter of Fort Kochi to see the Portuguese and Dutch influence in Cochin. Highlights include the St Francis Church, Santa Cruz Basilica, the famous Chinese Fishing Nets, the local beach and the old stately homes of this area.
  • Rickshaw ride from Fort Kochi to Mattancherry, stopping at Dhobi Ghat en route
  • A visit to the Mattancherry Palace, the Paradesi Synagogue, and a walk through Jew Town
